losing weight using the law of attraction

today we have a guest post by david hooper. it is an excerpt from his book ask, believe, receive and fits right in with the theme of men with weight issues we were talking about last week.

david’s and my views on this overlap in some areas, and they don’t in others. tomorrow i will present my thinking about this approach. dialogue is good! so first, heeeeere goes david:

body imagea very popular question about the law of attraction is “can it be used for weight loss?” the answer is a definitive yes! however there are a few steps you should take to ensure success.

first, you need to become aware of the negative thoughts surrounding us about weight. “if you eat that, you’ll get fat.” “obesity is genetic and can’t be controlled.” “it’s hard to lose weight.” now, these extremely common statements and regularly accepted “facts” are part of the root cause of our obesity problems. what we accept, we allow. what we believe, is.

if you have accepted that eating certain foods will make you fat, and then proceed to eat them because you like them, you may expect to grow fat. if you accept that obesity is genetic, you will not attempt to lose weight. you won’t even try. and if you accept that losing weight is difficult, as almost anyone will happily tell you, then you are agreeing that your path to losing weight must be difficult, if not impossible.

however, step back and take a good hard look at your beliefs about diet, exercise, and weight. do you believe that because you are a couch potato or a computer geek, your lack of exercise will cause you to become fat? then don’t be surprised when it happens. do you believe that eating the large fries instead of small is going to probably make you fat? you’re probably already gaining weight. our beliefs, thoughts and expectations firmly dictate our reality. so if you want to change your reality, first you need to change your thoughts.

man in the mirror; about body imagethis world of solid matter is not nearly as solid as it appears. it is in fact woven from a maelstrom of subatomic particles, whizzing and whirling around, inhabiting less than 1% of all space. these particles can simply blink in and out of existence and teleport from one spot to another. that’s not science fiction – that’s science fact.

bring it up a few levels, and you have the human cells. most of the cells in your body die and are replaced fairly frequently. these cells grow according to what you place in your body and what nutrients they are given or deprived of. if you begin a healthy lifestyle now, the potential for fast bodily change is very real, but you must be aware that this is possible, otherwise you are going to fall back onto the old stockpile belief of “losing weight is hard”.

your thoughts can easily manipulate your reality, and what could you possibly have more control over than your own physical body, the one apparatus in the physical world with which you do not appear to have a disconnect? (all disconnection from the external world is false, but appears to be real).

but the most important thing in weight loss is your mental bodily image. every day you look at yourself in the mirror. you snarl at your weight. you groan that you do not look the way you want to. you twist, turn and contort yourself and look with disgust at the part or parts of your body that you are unhappy with. this is feeding negative energy into your bodily image, and that’s exactly what you will attract – more things to feel disgusted with about your body.

when you see yourself in the mirror, stop judging yourself and begin loving yourself. that body carries you around, and you should be grateful that you have one at all! fully accept your body as it is right now, and decide that you would like to change it in order to give yourself a happier, healthier existence. again, accept your body in the mirror, and stop snarling and judging yourself. when you love your body, then naturally your body will feel better and will become healthier. as this happens your body will naturally shift to fit the image that you are holding in your mind: a healthier, thinner body. you will never lose weight while you judge yourself fat. that is rule number 1, and unfortunately that is the rule that 99% of people break from the get-go.

i hope this has shed some light on how you can readjust your thinking to allow yourself to develop a thinner, healthier body using the law of attraction. good luck to you!

    There’s so many things I want to comment on regarding your guest post, but since I’ve got to get back to work…! – I’ll keep this brief.

    1. ‘Reality change’ comes from changing your resonance. One small part of resonance is your thoughts.

    If you want to change your reality, I’d suggest starting with learning how to truly feel your feelings. That might be the biggest bang for the buck.

    2. I believe thoughts *don’t* manipulate your reality. To me – thoughts, along with the other raw materials of life – ARE your reality.

    And do you really want to manipulate your reality?

    Wouldn’t you be better off seeking dominion rather than domination?

    3. Do you really want to ‘control’ your body?

    Wouldn’t it be better to create an alliance with it instead?

    You can talk to your body. And I don’t mean the “you’re fat!” diatribe. Instead, you can lie down, quiet yourself, still your heart and mind, and actually hold a conversation with your body.

    You talk; it listens. Then, it talks and you listen.

    Part of your consciousness is indeed in your body. It possesses certain knowledge and information that your conscious mind lacks.

    And it has the ability to speak to you. In words. You just have to be very quiet to hear it.

    I guarantee you, it wants to be heard.

    4. I agree that love and acceptance are essential for living a happy successful life. The question is, how in the world do you do it? Because just saying the words doesn’t do much.

    It’s not easy.

    I nearly forgot what I was going to say filling all that in… oh yes, it’s difficult not to see yourself as being overweight when your stomach precedes all. Loving myself is one thing, saying it with chocolate is sadly another. I find hate is the better motivator, I hate myself like this and that feeling will cut through on cold mornings and get me to the gym. Not always,mind, but enough to help.

    one could ask: i overeating chocolate truly an expression of love? (note: i say “overeating”, not “eating”)

    You mean love itself in that context is really hate? Like self-harm? That itself is interesting. I’m thinking lately that food needs to be off the menu, that eating food because it tastes nice is like smoking crack because it feels good. I need to research food properly, preferably *before* I die from a surfeit of the stuff. Sigh…

    @maman, as i’m reading this i think of destructive relationships. the guy who locks up his wife because he loves her so much. the mother who smothers her son because she loves him so much.

    we often grow up associating love with food. that doesn’t mean that that is a healthy love.

    i think the trick is to put food in its proper place. it’s for nutrition, yes, it’s for pleasure,yes, but if we concentrate on the pleasure alone, and if that makes us gain or lose weight like crazy and occupies our thoughts way more than we want to, then we need to find a way to balance it out.

    how about this: healthy love is when it allows for balance?

    The Secret movie was an awesome example of how the law of attraction can summon the universal powers to manifest people situations and material things into your life.

    All of the presenters had compelling stories that described in detail how their lives changed once they applied the secret principals.

    I watched the movie several times only to discover the secret was never revealed nor did they explain how to actually make the law of attraction work in your favor.

    I searched for a year and finally discovered exactly how the secret law of attraction works.

    Anybody can put the principals to work for them and change their life dramatically in a short period of time.

    It’s true, they are laws and they work all the time but its your choice to make the law of attraction work for you and not against you.

    Can someone than explain to me why anorexics don’t get fat then when they are convinced that they are fat… yet they are unbelievably skinny?

    Well the same thing I explain to my low hearted friends…!
    All law are based on assumptions… & so is this one with attractions….!
    kinda. all destructive relationships are not as same as this explains. I follow the truth only as a mean to strength husband and wife relationships…!

    I really am intrested in the secret since i came accross it cuz at tyms i fynd myself still in the same postion tho i meanto change i want to change my life drastically i want a man who seemz so far from having i want to lose weight cuz i use to starve my self now i want to do it differentally i love my food all typs. I want succes real bad most my health is first. were to start and how to go about it?

    I think that losing weight has nothing to do with the law of attraction or anything like that. To lose weight you just have to put effort, dedication and discipline, the results will not wait.
