blogathon: poetry by my daughter

i asked my 11-year-old daughter if she wanted to contribute something to the blogathon. she is quite the writer. she even has a writer’s notebook! here are a few samples from it:

the game is over but the war is not, for there are more soldiers to come and die. why did they go, oh why oh why? please all dead soldiers, hear our cry, please don’t let our poor children die!

last year, her class’s artist-in-residence was a potter. the project they all ended up working on – including the teacher – was a shoe made of clay. on the last period of the project, they were instructed to write a little letter to the shoe they had just created. here is the letter that my daughter wrote to her clog of clay:

what a simple, graceful, and energetic period. it is you, my beautiful, gigantic but sweet shoe. it took time but right now i feel so attached, so enlightened to you. i love you for who you are. yours always.

imagination

the importance of imagination is that it will let you fly in the air or swim in the grass but the most important thing is, it will never let you go.

the wise friend

the shimmering spearlike angel shines all around us to make our spirits rise and say to us that we are not alone, we have a friend to talk to and no reason to be afraid. this angel is the great and wise shimmering moon.
