blog action day: water poem #6

Urmia Salt Lake / دریاچه ی نمک ارومیه

wallow in the thick waters
that made your tiny, tiny boat bob
on slimy, inky algae,
your boots not high enough, the bubbles
drop down to your socks, slobber them with
muddy murk

and you slosh through anyway because
there is nowhere else to go
but walk on through, walk on through
until you get to the dock where pike whisper at you,
in confidence,
and if you make out what they say
– it’s really not that hard –
you’ll get the drift, the shift,
and
like jesus
you’ll walk on water.

.

the russian in the shadow
muttered half baked
on the hard ice,
all scrambled under his frozen bearded breath,
some last words
before the northern light changed it all.

with one big bang of
brightness in fiery ominous rainbow glow
he was transported
to a different land.

down on the north pole
they still remember him
by his scream, “toot the elephant!”

he doesn’t remember.
he lives a new life
in a new world.

poem #3

i can hear the
water running steady
a light gurgling
and then
quiet rushing
dripping
but those are not
sounds
just words
i want to tell you
– really, i want to
tell you –
what i hear, not
words for water-actions
i want to tell you
about the sounds
how much those
vibrations mean to me
each night, brushing my teeth,
washing my hands once again
a quick shower that
clears much more than sweat
i want to tell you
about what happens
in my ears
who feel soothed
my brain
who feels calmed
my heart
who feels a
closure for the day
when the water runs,
quiet,
on another wednesday
night here on the
west coast.

poem #2

jesus walk through the swamp
moss on his head
cross far behind
eyes on the ground
on the swamp
jesus your eyes on the swamp
in the swamp with the swamp
jesus and moss and the swamp
one water one foot and
jesus the swamp and the cross and the walk
the walk through the swamp
jesus i walk with you
on the swamp through the swamp
with your eyes by your eyes
through the swamp through the cross
jesus the moss
through the moss with your feet
with your feet
lead
with your eyes
through your eyes
through the swamp
with the cross
jesus i walk with you
through the cross
on the swamp
with your eyes with your feet
wet
through the swamp full with tears
jesus
i walk
with you

for blog action day on october 15, 2010, i will post 15 water poems in 15 hours.

here goes the first one:

brilliant short tendrils
come out of a night
full of noises and
dripping and
busy spiders
gleaming in the first
sun that yawns
its way
past barely open pods of
rainbow orchids,
preparing to meander on the ground,
up a tree
through dead leaves
towards a light
that is just too far away.
— look! a beetle.
brown, green and blue
its trembling wings.
